RECRUIT TRAINING CENTRE, DEOLI (RAJASTHAN)

Recruit Training Centre–I Deoli, is located in one of the oldest cantonment having great history. Since its birth as a cantonment of British Army, existing campus of this training centre has gone through different phases. First of all, a part of Kotah contingent an Auxiliary Force raised by the Darbar Kotah Maharaja Ram Singh Ji, was established here in 1855. When this contingent joined the mutiny in 1857, a new Mina Battalion was raised. Later on, when agency was established in Deoli in 1859, this battalion become the infantry of the Deoli Irregular Force. In 1903, it became the 42nd Deoli Regiment, which was disbanded at the end of the Great war 1921 and in 1922 a new Mina corps was raised.

In its Second Phase during 1931 this campus was used to detain about 500 Bengali leaders arrested from Bengal and was guarded by Royal Garhwal Rifles.

In 1940, when freedom movement got its momentum, this campus was again opened to detain the well known freedom fighters, under the protection of special armed force of U.P. and later on in 1942, security of this detention camp was handed over to CRP( Crown Representative Police). At that time, well known freedom fighters such as S/Shri Jai Prakash Naryan, S.S.Batliwala, Rahul Sanskrutyan, S.K.Dange, Sudhir Ghosh, Keshav Dutt Malviya, Harish Dutt Malviya, Sardar Mota Singh and Dr.Fakharudin were detained here. During Second World War, Japaneese, Italians and Germans were kept here who were released after the World War and the camp was closed on 28.02.1947.

In its third phase it was reopened on 1.1.1948 and was used to accommodate about 10,000 Sindhi Refugees who had migrated from Pakistan.

In 1957, CRP (Central Reserve Police) took over this camp and its 4th and 9th battalion were stationed here but again this camp was converted into a detention camp to accommodate about 3000 prisoners and was known as Chinese camp. From 1967 onward it was used as rehabilitation camp. Again in 1979, 79 Bn. of CRP took over the camp.

On 10.3.1980, Ist Reserve Battalion of CISF took over the charge of this historical complex and finally, CISF RTC was established here on 01.08.1984.Subsequently, Ist Reserve Battalion of CISF was shifted to Barwaha, Madhya Pradesh.

This RTC is headed by an officer of the rank of Additional Dy. Inspector General. This RTC is having a training capacity of 500 trainees at any given time.
